“Today we are here to celebrate a new beginning for our future that
is rooted in the past and committed to Dr. Rodgers’ legacy,” stated
Hilda Fuentes, CEO, in her remarks at the Celebratory Groundbreaking for
the new facility on July 14.
Ms. Fuentes continued that she was “honored to stand before you
representing 185 employees who have dedicated themselves...to bringing
quality healthcare to the forgotten, underserved and disenfranchised of
our community.”
It was held with about 250 invited guests, board and committee
members, local governmental representatives and staff participating and
watching.
The program included an Invocation by Rev. Sam Mann, statements from
US Sen. Kit Bond and US Rep. Emanuel Cleaver II, remarks from Jackson
County and city executives, vocal music from Sharon Calkins,
Registration, the unveiling of the architects’ rendering, and culminated
with those on the program putting shoe leather to shovels, turning
ceremonial dirt. Construction will begin when we raise closer to 90% of
the funds and will then be completed within 15-18 months.
“Today has been about one year in the making. It takes a lot of time,
people and money to make a new health center a reality,” said Ralph
Caro, COO. “We’re more than half way there. Before we know it, we’ll be
moving in to our new home, and that will be exciting for the patients,
the community and the staff.”
