Health, Wellness & Education
Staff members of our Community Services Department provide Health, Wellness & Education classes on a wide variety of health topics. One series, "Ways to Live a Healthy Life with Chronic Diseases", occurs weekly for a 6-week period.
It's held at the Samuel U. Rodgers Health Center Downtown Campus, located at 825 Euclid Ave., in Kansas City, Missouri. Topics include:
- managing your high blood pressure and heart disease
- managing chronic lung diseases, such as COPD and asthma
- managing diabetes
- managing arthritis
- exercising for fun and fitness
- exercising tips for people with chronic conditions
- healthy eating
- making treatment decisions
Other health education classes cover additional topics such as Cancer, Chronic Pain, Congestive Heart Failure, Heartburn & Acid Reflux, Hepatitis, Irritable Bowel Syndrome, Kidney stones, Multiple Sclerosis, Parkinson's Disease, Peptic Ulcer Disease, Renal Failure and Stroke.

Health education and health screenings can also be provided off-site. Locations include local health fairs, churches, senior centers, schools, women's shelters and community meeting centers. Interpreters may be available to translate information in Spanish, Vietnamese, and other languages. Efforts are made to insure health education is provided in a culturally sensitive manner.
